The Association of Basque Rural and Small Hotels was created at the initiative of a group of tourist business owners from the industry to help improve the competitive situation of small professional hotel establishments in rural and natural areas of the Basque Country.
The need to overcome existing structural shortfalls and adapt management criteria to new conditions of demand and the tourist market, made it advisable to set up an association of employers and to join forces to represent the industry with a model of tourist experience with a recognised projection for the future at national and European level.
Given the difficulty of adapting to the demands and competitiveness of today's tourist market, it was seen as imperative to work together for common objectives that would be difficult to achieve on an individual basis, in view of the size of the companies involved.
